High Speed Rail Student SymposiumSome lucky ITE members took part in a student symposium about the new High Speed Rail project in California. During the session they heard from many high-ranking Rail Authority leaders and former #IWillRide student advocates. Following the talks and networking sessions was a tour of the current construction sites. Progress is being made and the first stage will open in 2025!
SoCal Firm ToursDuring Winter Quarter ITE members traveled down to Los Angeles to tour two premier transportation planning firms:
Fehr & Peers and Gibson Transportation Consulting Speed InterviewsAs preparation for the CE/ENVE Career Fair ITE hosted Tammy Martin from Career Services, then had local professionals ask students mock interview questions to practice their interview skills.
Fall 2016 VolunteeringMembers participated in many volunteer opportunities during fall quarter: teaching transportation to middle school kids at BAE Day, making Halloween bags for local schools, and conducting traffic counts in Jardine on SR-46.
Fall Quarter General MeetingsStudent Intern Panel with members who have had previous experience in the transportation field!
ITE Western DistrictOver the summer Cal Poly ITE went to Albuquerque, NM for the annual Western District Conference. Members attended technical sessions, networked with students and professionals, and had a fun time exploring Albuquerque. We also took first place in the Traffic Bowl!

Open House Duct TapeStudents created the annual open house duct tape pathway complete with a roundabout, street signs and striping (all made with rolls and rolls of duct tape). Also during open house we had a presentation from Jenny and Wulf Grote and spread the word about ITE during the club showcase!
Officer Service DayThe officers of Cal Poly ITE volunteered their Sunday morning to help restore SLO Creek. This included weeding invasive plants, clearing debris and planting new growth in the area surrounding the creek. Brunch at Margie's Diner was an added bonus!
Data Collection ProposalAs winners of the Western District Data Collection Proposal, ITE members collected vehicle and pedestrian counts for the parking lot at Dick's Sporting Goods
SLO Airport TourThe SLO County Airport is in the process of building a brand new terminal that can handle many more flights and travelers. Cal Poly ITE toured the site to check out all the progress that is being made.
SLO Transportation MixerThe SLO Transpo Mixer provides members with an fun social opportunity to talk with other students and local professionals.
RTA Bus RoadeoMembers volunteered as judges and monitored turns and clearances as bus drivers took on a challenging obstacle course of cones and barrels.

Joint MeetingThe Joint Meeting with Central Coast ITE was a great opportunity to network with local professionals and hear from past International ITE President Zaki Mustafa.
New Bus UnveilingThe City of San Luis Obispo recently added three sleek new buses to their fleet. Along with testing the buses, ITE got to meet SLO mayor Heidi Harmon! The new buses are equipped with sky lights, television screens, fold-able seats and much more! Take a trip on the new buses and see the improvements for yourself!
Alumni ReceptionAfter the Civil and Environmental Engineering Career Fair, ITE invited alumni transportation recruiters to relax and mingle with students and professors.
Bus BonanzaITE hosted a game during Engineers Week 2017 called Bus Bonanza. The game pits teams against each other trying to optimize a bus seating layout for certain scenarios.
Summit @ CSUFIn January, ITE members traveled down to Cal State Fullerton to attend the 4th Annual Student Leadership Summit! It was a great opportunity to network with professionals and students throughout ITE's Western District. Fun events included: Speed Interviews, technical presentations and a group project about the implementation of a development called Tuffytown.
Club ShowcaseCal Poly ITE had a great time at Club Showcase with lots of new members signing up and getting excited about transportation!
